Physicians
The SCCH medical staff is young, competent, and community oriented with a strong base of primary care docs are well established in the community and supportive of specialists.

Surgery averages over 200 cases a month, including OB, which accounts for 30 deliveries (6-8 sections) a month. Most of the surgery is bread & butter general, orthopedics, urology, ophthalmology, and gynecology. We are working hard to plan strategically and increase our volumes with solid, case-mix enhancing procedures.

We run three O.R.s currently (we have a fourth) and a cysto room. Our anesthesia model is one M.D., supervising three CRNAs and providing anesthesia as well.

Our facility is very financially strong and, as a not-for-profit hospital, all of our net income is invested in upgrading our equipment and facility. In July 1999, we began plans for a complete $2.2 million renovation project which included our operating room suites and was completed in the Fall of 2000.

We have also expanded our therapy services department to better accommodate outpatients. In 2001, we completed the 54,000 square foot Lifetime Wellness Center, located on the hospital campus and opened in January 2001. This state-of-the-art facility can be seen on our web site at www.scchosp.org.

In addition to the hospital, we have a 109-bed intermediate care nursing facility on our campus. All are available with an excellent inpatient and outpatient surgery unit.

We are very computer oriented with a full information systems network. Our latest application is full digital radiology with a GE film less PACS system with 40 inch plasma screens in the OR suites. PACS is available at computer stations at all of our nursing/dictation stations.

In addition to our therapy services, you'll find outstanding inpatient and outpatient physical therapy, speech therapy, and occupational therapy. The hospital's Wellness Center includes 5,000 square feet for these services to better meet the needs of patients and transition them to exercise on their own.

Nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains, the community holds a natural beauty. With a county population of 35,000, and a service population of 40,000 +, our community offers excellent schools, a satisfying four-season climate, and many outdoor recreational activities literally at your doorstep. Some of these include Hungry Mother State Park, Grayson Highlands State Park, the Virginia Creeper (Bike & Hike) Trail, and Mount Rogers National Recreation Area (the highest peak in Virginia).

Marion is a designated "Downtown" community and is acquiring state and federal funds for renovations and historical preservation. The community is charming and a safe place in which to live. Convenient shopping can be found in town, or by traveling I-81 to the Tri-Cities of Bristol, Kingsport and Johnson City (to the southwest) or to Roanoke (to the northeast).

Cultural activities are available at the town's vintage Lincoln Theatre (newly renovated, see link below), close by in historic Abingdon, Virginia, where the Barter Theatre hosts plays year-round. There are a variety of dining options available close in and within a half-hour's drive.
